St. Benedict once said, “No one is to pursue what is judged best for oneself, but instead, what is better for someone else. This is, for me, one of the best words of our dear saint. In my life of unending crave to help others, though I am not a catholic, but still a Christian, I live my life close to the very principles of our Lord Jesus Christ has given us. I know that God made everything according to his purpose and nothing came to existence as a result of accident.
I am a student of San Beda College, under the Legal Management Department. I dream to become a lawyer someday to help others. Although there may seem to be a lot of factors that discourage me, still, I choose to serve God by extending my hand to others. The reason why I have this kind of eagerness to help is because I believe that the way for others to know our God is through loving others first.
St. Benedict also said that “Your way of acting should be different from the world’s way; the love of Christ must come before all else. It is very saddening to witness all kinds of immorality we see from time to time. I believe the very challenge in this world is not about merely doing what is right, but standing up for what is just. The only thing that makes every Christian different from others is the way they stand up for Christ and never be ashamed for it.
According to my friend Mike Gallego, “Many people call themselves Christians but do not exemplify the ways of Christianity. It is true that many of us who think we are Christians regard Christianity as merely receiving the Sacraments, attending Eucharistic Celebrations of the Church, and praying. Yes, these things are doings of a Christian but these things will always leave us with a question hanging in our psyche, “are we Christians enough? My friend is very right with what he said. “Are we Christians enough?” This I believe what Christian should reflect on every now and then.
One of the things I am really amazed with St. Benedict is that he is very humble. Jesus once said, “Deny yourself, take up your cross, follow me.”This serves as a call for us to humble ourselves in every situation that it may be a secret to our inner strength that will always enable us to face the challenges of life, and by doing so we are being in the state of grace to be on the right track with Jesus.
St. Benedict is worthy to be called a saint for he has finished well. He served our God earnestly and with fervor. I pray that, we, Christians would always choose to follow God and finish well.

That in all things God may, indeed, be glorified.
